Computer has always been an interesting subject to us. In today’s developing world,
computers are very essential for our day – to – day life. We can gain a lot of knowledge
just by sitting in front of the machine. It helps us to enhances our knowledge and

future.
Class VI :- For us, computer is not only an interesting subject, but also the best
partner that teaches and helps us in every field. In the month of July, our class
had learnt to play a few interesting games and do logical reasoning. The games were
very interesting and exciting. The reasoning activity helped us in building our
logical skills.
The debating and declamation club today under the guidance of Mrs. K. Mehrotra and
Mrs. S. Banerjee presented before the audience a declamation contest in which eight
member of the club participated and it was judged by Mrs. P. Shukla and Mrs. M.
Banerjee. These participants put a commendable show by reciting legendary speeches
made by certain great heroes who did wonders in the lifetime.
To eliminate stage fear and enhance their speaking skills through debates, discussions,
extempore, recitation etc.
Debating Club Report
The debating club of SMC aims at invoking and instilling confidence in children
to speak and express their thoughts among masses. Also, not only does the Debating
Club strive to produce confident speakers, but it also pays attention on burnishing
the speaking and grammatical skills of children. So they speak good and speak well.
The first week in the debating club was aimed at getting the children acquainted
with each other and to the art that is debating. The President , Vice President
and the Secretary of the club were chosen and the aims and objectives of the club
were drafted with the help and opinion of students and teachers. Sessions of the
debating club encourage the children to be forthcoming and candid. Special attention
is paid to Class 9th and 10th, for the students of the said classes tend to be reticent
and laconic.
A number of activities were conducted and are going to be conducted to keep the children
interested and engaged. Extempore sessions are conducted every week with the children
being given approximately ten minutes to prepare a short speech for or against a
topic, and a rebuttal round is conducted to bring in the limelight the opinion of
the audience. This prepares the students to be ready to face opposition on their
opinions when they are confronted by real life situations.
Group Discussions are often conducted on a current or argumentative topic, as the
Debating club believes in giving every child a fair chance and a comfortable platform
to speak on. Recently, the club has started appointing surprising themes for their
sessions each week. The members as told and informed about the theme on the very
first session held keeping the theme in mind. This also encourages the students
to stay updated and informed about all recent as well as argumentative topics. Equivalent
attention is paid to speaking in Hindi, and every alternate session of the weeks
is a session in Hindi and comfortable in speaking in both Hindi and English.
We realize that being confident and having strong opinions is a prerequisite for
making a mark in the world, and through our little but adamant efforts, the Debating
Club aims to do just that.
All good things must come to an end and this thought is unfortunately very true
8th December, 2012 was the day of presenting the various shows prepared by the various
clubs. The G.K club too had prepared a quiz with the aim of providing information
in an entertaining way. There were 5 separate rounds which tested the knowledge
of the participants regarding various fields such as poems, science literature,
current affairs and math’s. It was overall a very stimulating and pleasant experience
which helped us to develop our stage skills and now we eagerly wait for the next
year and for SMC have talent season -2 with a new and improved G.K Club.
To create general awareness of the local, national and international events / personalities
/ sports etc. and sharpen the memory through quizzing, puzzles and intelligence
games.
The G.K. Club aims towards creating awareness about the ongoing happenings in India
and the world. The classes conducted enhanced our knowledge about India. Various
in – class quizzes were conducted to test what we have retained from our classes
and from our classes we discovered some very amazing and fascinating about our Incredible
India – our topic of the month.
On Wednesday 25th of July, members of the G.K. Club held a questionnaire about our
school – St. Mary’s Convent High School for classes 3 to 5. The question asked were
based upon their power of observations. And how much they knew about their teachers.
The questions asked were accompanied by a power point presentation. It was a delightful
experience as it gave us opportunity to spread awareness about our institution.
The teachers in – charge of our club are Ms. Bhaumik and Mrs. Basu. The theme of
our club for the month of April – May was “Literature and Mythology”.
The main objective of our club is to enhance our knowledge and help us to remain
in tune with the new updates in the field of art, culture, literature, science and
technology.
In keeping with the view of our prospects and objectives, various activities like
quizzes, rapid – fire rounds, questionnaires, logical and analytical reasoning were
held in our club meetings. During the summer vacations, the students were asked
to prepare a chart high lightening the “amazing facts and news headlines” with the
combined efforts of the students, we had also come up with a beautiful logo for
our club also maintain a separate record of all the general knowledge questions
which are discussed in our meetings. The members of our club had been reading out
the news headlines and amazing facts in the morning assemblies. On Fridays, we had
been conducting a short quiz based on general knowledge for the students of other
clubs.
During the month of July, few students had participated in the inter school quiz
competition and had indeed fared well.
At the close of the month, the teachers in – charge had conducted a short quiz for
the students of our club. We were also given the opportunity to evaluate our club
activities in one of our sessions. We were openly invited to give our views and
recommendations, if any. All the above activities have increased our knowledge and
helped us to stay connected with the outside world. In the end, I would like to
say ,
“Stay alert and stay awake,
Be curious to know about facts,
Because this will enhance your personality
And make you stand out of the crowd.”
Quiz Competition
Our literary club aims at advancing our listening, speaking and writing abilities.
Our literary club organized some activities like- enacting out Idioms, aural passage,
tongue twisters and rapid fire everybody enjoyed the activities Team B was chosen
as the winner with 75 points. At the end, we would like to thank our dear principal
and teachers for giving us an opportunity and for their full cooperation.
To strengthen the vocabulary and sharpen the memory and concentration of the students
through various interesting activities like- Spell Bee, Spider's web, JAM etc.
“Vocabularies are crossing circles and loops. We are defined by the lines we choose
to cross or to be confined by.”
Words are the most powerful form expression in this world. They are the tools of
thought. Why do large vocabularies characterize executives and possibly outstanding
men and women in other fields? The final answer seems to be that words are the instruments
by means of which men and women grasp the thought of others and with which they
do much of their own thinking. Our vocabulary is an important part of our personality
and requires as much attention as anything else. The term ‘LITERARY’ is a measureless
prospective encasing language and literature. If literature is the body then language
is its backbone and both the two being boundless fields. The clubs has been doing
and is doing every possible task to make the infinite, finite.
In the first few sessions we introduced ourselves to each other. The annual strategy
for the club was devised where the rules, objectives and the action plan was briefly
discussed with students. Soon activities like Spelling Bee and others were conducted.
Our first step was to test the present vocabulary skills of the students. Indeed
they all performed well. We helped them in augmenting their lexicon through various
interactive sessions. Also, we held regular discussions in the club about their
progress and what the members felt about the time they in the club and with the
other student members. The activity involved cross-questioning rounds where the
students quizzed their fellow members. It was a fun-filled experience and fared
up well.
Along the daily activity, we moved on to our action plan for the month of May. It
was decided that on certain days the club members would go around the school to
the various classes into conduct session and hold a small quiz. The response which
we got from all the classes was remarkable. The students were eager and enthusiastic
throughout the session. As expected the excitement of the primary wig was on the
top of the list. We were privileged to have this opportunity. This was a uniquely
pleasing and unforgettable experience for all of us.
After the school opened, we put our attention towards grammar session with activities
on preposition, tenses, etc. recently we had extempore sessions in the club. We
aim at covering all our bones and emphasize on overall build up quality. Enhancing
the vocabulary is not enough, the students need to be well versed in the technical
aspect of the English language also. We are gradually progressing as a whole and
steps to meet the goal of the literary clubs.
To enhance the acting ability and to overcome their shyness. The various activities
are plays, monoacting, mimicry etc.
The dramatics club, lead by Mrs. M. Banerjee and Mrs. M. Shukla, concentrates on
enhancing the acting skills of the students. Various activities have been conducted
over the months for the attainment of our prime objective.
The first activity that was conducted by the club was ‘MONOACTING’. Many students
came forward and performed and were applauded for their performance. This activity
was conducted in the month of April.
In the month of May, we had conducted the ‘Adman Show’. A group of about five students
each prepared the ads for the various products. The Adman Show had proved to be
a great success. It was not only loved but also enjoyed and appreciated by all.
In the month of July, the club members had been involved in preparing the scripts
and dialogues for the Hindi and English plays that the club members will be soon
presenting to the school.
For the coming days, the club has decided on a very interesting and creative competition
that is the
‘MASK PAINTING COMPETITION’ where the students will be required
to portray a particular emotion through their masks. For this all the club members
are divided into six club groups. Each group will be required to paint a particular
emotion on their masks like love, tragedy, sadness, comedy, horror and happiness.
At the end, I would like to conclude by saying that “BE ORIGINAL. DON’T DIE AS A
COPY AND BE THE BEST IN EVERY CHARACTER YOU GET TO POTRAY IN LIFE”.
Dramatics Club (Middle School)
Dramatics club is a club in which we get the opportunity to reveal our talent in
the form of drama. It was very exciting to join this club.
The first day when we went there, we were told about the different activities that
would be performed throughout the year. This was explained by our respective club
teachers, Mrs. M. Singh and Mrs. A. Nigam. They appointed us different duties. The
first activity that we performed in the month of April was Mono Acting. Mono Acting
is an acting in which a person enacts as two or more characters at the same time.
Many girls performed but only few were selected depending upon their performance,
and the girls who did not perform well had to perform once again.
In the month of July, we had to enact a play. In the play classes 6, 7 and 8 were
divided into three groups. Each group had 8 to 10 girls. Each group performed very
well. The plays were both in English and Hindi.
We are happy to be a part of this club under the able guidance of our teachers.
It is stimulating experience for all of us.

Maths & Science Club
To develop mental aptitude, conceptual clarity and applying scientific and mathematical
concepts in daily life through quizzes, experiments and model making.
This club aims to help us to build a scientific attitude and to observe each and
everything carefully so that we may create our own laws and become great scientists
and mathematicians in future. The first day when we entered class 9 – A we were
very much sure that the last day we came out we’ll have much to say and much to
show. We all joined the club with a strong desire to explore the unknown. Maths
& Science never leave our way they are always with us, whether it is to our fingers,
2 hands or 1 nose. Each and everything in this world comprises a large part of Maths
& Science. The chair you are sitting on, the clothes you wear and the pen with which
you write is all the creativity of science. We also had the discussions about what
science is and its various branches of which the relevant ones are :- Physics, Chemistry
& Biology. The next day we were divided into 5 groups
1. Edison’s Group
2. Maxwell’s group
3. Einstein’s Group
4. Pythagoras Group
5. Archimedes Group
The first activity conducted by the office bearers was Quiz 1 in which the relevant
facts were questioned which we were studying or have studied till now like valency,
symbols and Formulas of various elements, whits, S.I Units, equations and other
things. Next was the collage making competition based on environmental issues like
save water, Trees and our Mother Earth, precautions needed and causes to be mentioned.
This continued for 2 days and at the last Maxwell’s group came out to be victorious.
Then was the slogan writing competition in which each group has to prepare 2 slogans
each for science and maths. Some of the slogans were :
“1, 2, 3, 4 Maths is what we adore, 5, 6, 7, 8 hoe we cannot appreciate.”
“Put a stop to a drop, four minute shower not an hour so don’t waste it just taste
it.”
Next Quiz was based on the Inventors and their Inventions and the winners were the
Einstein’s Group. Then the most interesting part of Maths which are the tricks to
gain the mentioned result were taught. We were also taught the reasons why the sky
is blue and why the sky is black at night. Coming after a long time, we discussed
the observations of the girls that were explained by our Club In charges. We also
had hung someone interesting and amazing facts in the school campus related to Sciences.
We were taught the square roots of different numbers and tables too. We can only
become great and intelligent scientists only when we are not prejudge mental that
is we not only see what’s happening and Answer the questions. At last I would say
that Science doesn’t know its debt to imagination, Men love to wonder and sow the
seeds of Science. So,
Be perturbed, to gain more,
Be scimatic, to explore
